Ampex FPC10 camera internals
|
|
These images show the left side internals of what was otherwise known as a Panasonic AK-
100E
camera. Here it is shown fitted with a 'camera' adapter for use in the studio. These adapters
usually contain a 'genlock' for locking the camera to the studio syncs, an intercom and tally system for the cameraman (person), as well as remote control facilities. This allows lens iris and various other camera and colour functions to be adjusted remotely from the 'control gallery'. In addition to a normal (well once upon a time) composite output, this camera also gives separate luminance and chromanance signals. This was an early step towards making worthwhile improvements to television colour quality.
This camera, while of the 3 tube type, has perhaps not the performance or is as lavishly built as
the Sony BVP3 or Ikegami HL79 on the other pages of this site. But there again it probably cost rather less than those other top end machines. Indeed, while still giving impressive images on my own grade 2 monitor, a certain reduction in quality is fairly obvious. |

Here is the optical part of the camera, clearly showing the colour separating prism together
with the three tube assemblies.
